Shield
The shield was created the summer of 2006 by Lauren Hill (Spring 05- 42
Most Wanted).  The 2 big diamonds represent the founder and co-founder.  
The 13 small diamonds represents the 13 charter members.

Purpose
To strive for excellence, excel academically, participate in community
service, promote finer womanhood, and to produce great citizens for the
community.

Qualifications for Membership
Must be a sophomore, junior, senior 3.0 cumulative Grade Point  Average
or better.  The petitioner must not have disciplinary problems on their
school record.   The petitioner must also attend the interest meeting, not
miss over the allowed number of absences allowed by the pledge committee
and Dean of  Admissions, must participate in the membership intake
period, must abide by all rules set by the constitution and by-laws of
Emeralds of Distinction and  pass through multiple stages of the  intake
process.  A vote may also be used during any time of pledge period.

Founder's Vision
Tiffany Rhodes' vision was to create an organization that promoted
sisterhood, community involvement, and academic success as well as to
create a stimulating environment for the best of the best young ladies at
Orangeburg-Wilkinson to come together and work as a unit and learn the
importance of sisterhood.  

Today
Since March 30, 1998, Emeralds of Distinction has grown into a premier
organization for young ladies at Orangeburg-Wilkinson High School and
constantly graduates the top students of their respective classes.

Emeralds of Distinction has two chapters:
Emerald Chapter at Orangeburg-Wilkinson High School
Diamond Chapter at Lake Marion High School

The Diamond Chapter began September 12, 2007 with 39 young ladies
with the assistance of
